Parking: On show day please park in Lot 6. Parking is pre-paid for you there. (You're welcome!)
Large Instrument Drop-off (Harps, Percussion, Basses, saxes) you have two options.
Option 1 - (our recommendation) - Drop your instruments off in front of Smithwick Theater. To get there take the perimeter road. At the campus fountain turn right onto the one-way campus drive. Go past cardiac hill and past the back entrance to Smithwick theater. Stay in the left lane. Watch for the "Buses ONLY" sign at the campus center. It's before the foot bridge. At that sign there is a emergency vehicle driveway - it's steep. Go to the top.
Option 2 - Drop your instruments off behind Smithwick Theater and then CLIMB the last steep flight of stairs to the theater entrance. After unloading and securing your instruments inside you will need to re-park your car in Lot 6. Cars parked behind the Theater will be ticketed or towed. Park in Lot 6 then walk/cart/roll the 3-4 minutes to the theater. This path is on the same level as the theater with just a gentle 40-pace incline to start.

Musician Preview and Seating Process
The California Pops wants to provide the best opportunity it can for every player in the orchestra. We do our best to ensure that all members will truly enjoy the Pop's experience contributing to our performance excellence. Below are a couple process explanations to assist orchestra members.
Previews of Interested Musicians
Maestro Venaas meets with interested musicians prior to joining. This meeting gives Kim an opportunity to discuss the Pops and preview musicians. The musician may perform as a soloist, with accompaniment, in a small ensemble (Duet/Trio) or have an opportunity to play one or two Pop's selections with Kim. Those selected would receive the schedule for the remaining season.
Preview auditions will be announced, publicized and completed one month prior to the start of each concert rehearsal series and during the summer break in preparation for the next season.
Principal players are selected directly by the music director. Section seating is jointly determined by the principal, conductor, and talent manager using the below factors. The aspects of the principal functions are listed below. Seating is provided on the first day of rehearsal.
